It's my life, as I see it. It's my opinions, my thoughts, and my experiences. The content has changed over the years as my live has changed. The 40 something EMT Wife and mother, is now a Wife and Search Technician with Search Dogs Sussex and as for the age? Does that even matter!

When the dog bites, when the bee.......
These are not my favorite things!
After hearing my Husband snore all night!! And an extremely loud thunder storm travel back and forth past our house, I got up feeling absolutely exhausted!
Today was my second day shift, I got mine and Tepic's mugs out and made us tea as which ever of us gets in first usually does, so imagine my surprise when it wasn't Tepic that came in! Instead it was Steve, I decanted the tea surreptitiously into his mug and washed the other one up.
Just before we started the shift we were told that Steve had to swap vehicles to go with another crew mate and I was to work with a paramedic I had never met before called Barry, he turned out to be mad! and we had a really good day, well except for the first job, I was attending, we were sent to a 7 year old girl who had fallen out of a tree but not just any tree oh no, a 30 foot tall tree and yep she had fallen from the top! she was not complaining of any neck or back pain but because of the mechanism we felt it necessary to put a neck collar on her and immobilize her using a vacuum mattress just to be on the safe side, just as we were about to go the mothers friend arrived with a large weimeraner dog, which she informed me was a guard dog! It took one look at me kneeling on the floor and rushed over, I told it to go away but it decided to bite me grabbing my hand!
I did mention to the owner the fact that an ambulance was parked outside which would suggest that there were strangers in the house and that knowing the dog was a guard dog she should have maybe kept the bloody thing on its lead!!
The dog tore my glove off and left a few red marks but fortunately didn't break the skin too much.
Still we got our little girl safely into hospital where a team of 6 were awaiting her arrival, 30 feet is a long way to fall!
Our second, (and last) job was to a nursing home to collect a 96 year old lady who had severe bed sores.
Once we had safely got her into hospital we asked about our 7 year old, fortunately she had just sustained a few grazes and had already been dis charged, I then asked about an unknown female patient I had taken in on my night shift, with a GCS of 3, she had self discharged herself from intensive care as soon as she had come round! I think this lady may have a short life expectancy ...... some people never learn, we found out she had dis charged herself on two other occasions also!
It was then that I realised that my thumb ring was missing I told my crew mate and said that I thought the dog may have dragged it off earlier, he rang the patients house and we drove back where the 7 year old's mother told me she had found it ( they had shut the dog away knowing we were en route, how good of them!) I was pleased to get it back and amazed to find out that our 7 year old patient was now jumping on the trampoline in the back garden!!!!!
We were slightly late off tonight and almost as soon as we had taken our kit off the ambulance the night crew got a job. I hope they have a good shift, the start doesn't look promising.
This morning at work I had a sort out in the fridge as it had loads of out of date food in it, there was also some stale bread which I put out for the birds, while I was out there I noticed a small flower all alone in the scrubby grass and weeds and took this photo of it.
