Hay stack

This morning I took my Mum my granddaughter and mums dog to the vets to have the made to measure American splint fitted to mums dogs front leg, the dog was so good and let them do it several times before having a short walk in it. For the next few weeks she will build up to wearing her prosthetic more and more until she is wearing it all day.
My hay arrived today too,

it smells lovely and the bales are nice and heavy, I have a small barn at my disposal and together with the 'help' of Rafi I got it stacked and away before any rain could get to it.
When I say Rafi helped, I mean he stood on every bale to inspect it for mice and rabbits sadly for him there were none, he did find a couple of very big spiders which he had as an evening snack.

Blackout Friday!

A post with this title should really only have a one word body... DON'T!

This is the night that Ambulance services across the country (World maybe, who knows) get totally crippled by people who :-

Can't hold their drink,

Think of nothing but themselves,

Spend a week or more's wages on alcohol in one night,

Embarrass themselves in front of their co workers, friends and possibly family

Kill someone or cause them suffering. Yes I did mean to write that. When someone gets so drunk that they become unconscious or their "Friends" (Inverted commas as real friends wouldn't let them get that bad!) are worried because someone has had their drink spiked!!! or isn't responding properly due to the amount of alcohol consumed, an ambulance gets called, an ambulance which will then be tied up for an hour or so dealing with some stupid person who has caused their own situation by stupidity, when it could be attending to someone who has life threatening condition and needs an ambulance through no fault of their own!

This is the night which sees Ambulance service and Police personnel assaulted  in the line of duty due to intoxicated people.

Is it OK to go out of control when so much is at stake?

One last thing... DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE, STAY ALIVE, And let everyone have a Happy Christmas!

Hail Mary...

Father forgive me its been 10 months since my last post!
A lot has happened in those months too!
But I shall say my Hail Mary's and move on without dwelling on them.
Suffice to say I am back with a Lowland Search and Rescue team, less the dog who now has dementia to go with her deafness, it doesn't make her any less lovely though!
I have also changed my job, I have become a vampire again...!

Four words!

One of my friends posted on facebook that she had to find four words to describe herself!
If I had to find four words to describe myself, would anyone else use the same four words to describe me? Would my friends use the same words?
Is it in the context of how we know each other that makes us think of people in a certain way, or do we see things in people that we wish we had in ourselves?
Why do some people appeal to us and others not?
Why do we choose the friends we have and why do we sometimes dislike people as soon as we meet them?
If you know me, what four words would you use to describe me?

What have you learnt today?

I learnt a few things this week, and most of them the hard way!
1) There is no such thing as a free lunch!
2) Some people just aren't who they make out they are!
3) In times of crisis, true friends and genuine people will be there for you!
4) A bottle of wine and good company makes you feel so much better!

Talking in riddles

Every day this week I have been checking my emails... except today! For some reason I thought it was a Saturday, therefore no office type work should be done. That is until I thought I might have an email from a friend I haven't heard from in a while.
Instead of that I had the email I have been waiting for, asking if I would like to go out next Saturday (Like helloooo!!! Of course I do!)
That said, If I get a good email Monday or Tuesday I will he saying No I don't want to go out next Saturday after all!
Confused? Ha-ha, with any luck all will become apparent.. very soon!
Hey Northern Bird, Gimme some of that green plant! .....(four leaf clover I mean, just in case anyone thinks I mean anything else!)

NCIS, Criminal Minds, CSI

I am beginning to think I have an addiction, not to smoking drink or drugs or even chocolate. My addiction seems to be with American crime scene TV programmes!

Back and forth

After a long shift at work at the Hospital what better thing to do than come home, see my two lovely horses then. . . . .Go back to the hospital!!! Really? Yes really this time to visit first an old work mate of both my self and my husband then a good friend who has had a big heart attack, requiring no less than 4 stents! To be honest he looked in excellent health and really well. He hopes to be home by Wednesday. Such a nice chap I hope he gets home soon, hospital just doesn't suit him!
My lovely horses on the other hand looked beautiful in the evening sunshine, it was just a shame I didn't get to spend very much time with them!
Well, as I sat here writing Beth just came in with yummy presents for all of us including the dog! Isn't she lovely!

Windy Night...

Well, what a night last night!!
I went down to get Mouse in from the field at about seven pm the wind was already howling around and it was raining quite heavily, you would think they would be waiting to come in but no both Mouse and Gold were in the middle of the field having none of it. I had to go and fetch her, unheard of!, back at the gate she was spooking at everything, the wind was whistling through the chicken coops that she didn't like and when we were on the bridge something made her leap sideways so that she nearly leaped into the river, so glad my lead rope is ten feet long! finally I got her into her stable. Then went to help Golds owner bring her in.
At eleven thirty I heard a couple of tiles slipping on the roof, and suggested to my husband that I should move the car in case they came off and hit it but being snuggled up in my nice warm bed was too much, the howling wind and torrential down pours outside just added to the cosiness of my bed, the car took its chances alone in the storm and I might add survived perfectly.
On the road to the stables this morning though the debris was apparent, trees down and branches all over the place, so glad I wasn't on nights last night.
Today it's still windy and there are a lot of threatening clouds in the sky but it isn't anywhere near as bad as it was during the night. Why are storms so much worse at night?

Farrier

Today the farrier came to the museum to shoe the three shires, they were caked in mud when we got them in from the field, yesterdays rain has made the gateway an absolute quagmire!
Having got them in and given each of them a hay net we started the heavy task of hosing the mud off their legs and grooming it all off the rest of them, strangely they all seem to like to roll in the mud!
As they all have long feathers (they are shires after all) we have to put tubigrip round their legs, A) to stop the hair catching fire and B) so the farrier can see what he is doing!
The youngster decided today that he would not pick his feet up no matter what we did, and its not easy picking a tonne of unwilling horse up. Eventually they were all ready and the farrier started the heavy task of shoeing. Assisted periodically by a chicken or our resident cockerel Sid.
When they had all been done we let them back into the field to graze.

Down with this sort of thing

We have a new Grandson, his name is Jack. He is one month and two days old, and today we travelled to London to see him, our son and daughter in law before they fly out to Spain at the end of the month.
Unfortunately London was in chaos today as there was a "peaceful" rally/march going on there were somewhere in the region of 250,000 people. To be fair most of them were peaceful but as usual there were a minority who went there just to cause trouble, and they certainly managed that all dressed in black with balaclavas to hide their identity.
On the way back several of the underground stations were closed or having trouble, one of them had apparently been seriously paint balled and that was causing an almost complete stand still.
I have never seen so many mobile detention vans. and just as a point of interest not one of the ones I saw was from London they were all from other counties.

Mud, Mash and Mustard

MUD: After having some quite nice weather recently, and when it has rained it hasn't been much (well here anyway) This morning it was throwing it down! I got wet just going from the front door to the car, so when I got to the yard I was soaked before I had done anything! I put mouse out without a rug though as her stable is full of hair from her shedding her winter coat. I got to the field and let her go, the entrance of the field is just one enormous puddle of mud thanks to the downpour and the fact that three horses go in and out twice a day.
MUSTARD: Back home Litlun and I did a few bits of cooking and laundry then when it was lunch time Litlun had some Philadelphia and bits and bobs whilst I had some veggie hot dogs with mustard, well I think I may have put a little bit too much on the bread as it felt like a fire at the top of my nose, it took my breath away for a few moments, soo nice though.
MASH: Bangers and mash for my lot for dinner it saves me having to think about what to cook.

ECG

This morning, having put Mouse out I went to the museum as I do every Monday and Friday that I am not working. As its half term we had half term activities as I work with the horses we were giving wagon rides, the old fella and the film star were doing the wagon whilst the little fella stayed on the yard for people to see and make a fuss of. The rain held off until about half past two so we managed to make a little money for the museum.
Once I had finished I mucked out Mouse, put fresh water haylage and food in her stable then brought her in for the night.
As we were eating dinner Litlun mentioned that she had been having palpitations which had lasted for five minutes and caused her to be breathless, this worried me a little as she is only 14 years old.
I decided that this was bothering me enough to take her down to the ambulance station and do an ECG. Well what it showed and what it said contradicted its self, (although I have never done an ECG on a child before) I printed off two twelve leads and two traces, tomorrow we are going to get an appointment with our GP just to be on the safe side.

What happened to the old me?

I thought I would have a little look through my old blogs, starting from the beginning, just randomly and read a few. I am beginning to wish I hadn't now.
What on earth has happened to me? The blog used to be funny in parts with the odd joke or funny blog but now its drab and flat. May be my outlook on life has changed, as my husband has just suggested. I suppose in the last year and a half I have seen and had a few life changing experiences...
Maybe I should have more fun maybe I should change my job for something more fun, there is no fun in our job any more management have ensured that it is totally impossible, yet I read a newspaper report last week that stated work force performance was almost doubled if the workers were happy. I know that we now do all our obs and paperwork at the scene now as opposed to on the vehicles en route to hospital, just to give us time to think.
Yes I think its time for a change, but as I am no good at anything other than monkey skills I have no idea what I could do!

All change....

I can't believe its been so long since my last post!
Many things have changed since then, for instance I have moved Mouse to a stables closer to my home, we have Flower, our Granddaughter every Monday night. Beth has quit her job got a new one and is off to College then Uni to train as a teacher. There are probably other things which I cant remember off hand but if I can get my backside into gear and keep the blog up to date, will come to the surface.
As I think this is a fresh start I may change a few names.... to protect the innocent and the not so!!!
Well here goes.....

Twiglet

It's not until you look back at photos that you can see the difference in things, I was looking through some photos of Twiglet today and was suddenly aware of how big she had got and also how much paler her spines are now.
In a few weeks time I intend to do the same with photos of me! Oh yes! I have been going to Slimming world (again, after months of "can't be bothered") this time I have added swimming the gym and of course Aikido and walking to the mix, I have lost weight quite fast and intend to keep at it this time and then stay at the weight and size I end up at. No more of this faffing around.
