Fencing
After giving the horses their morning feed today I decided that I should put the fences, that we took down during the winter, back up. There are two of them, one runs the width of the field cutting it into two almost even halves, the other splits the second half into halves again. If I leave it any longer the spring grass will start to grow and we will end up with fat horses or worse still Laminitic horses!
What I hadn't bargained on was the ball of messy electric fence tape that we had obviously left last year and forgotten about! It took me two hours to unravel it. Next I had to space out the fence posts then fit the tape into the slots, two strands per fence. This year we have made the fences two separate ones as last year the pulsar wasn't strong enough to get a good zap going through the whole fence, While I was doing all this I was also filling all the water troughs up as I had washed them out and started from scratch, Mouse thought this was good fun kicking the water that I had washed out, when she got bored with that she decided to chase the dog who in turn was chasing a tennis ball that I had to keep throwing for her, good job I took the ball slinger!
Once the fences were up, I mucked out the paddocks, (all three) then put the dog in the car and went to get some horse feed.
Back at the yard I wheeled the hay and feed up to the field, put the girls rugs on and left them for the night, I had been at the field from about 9:30 till 4:15, and now I am starving! but, I still have to clean out Twiglet, and feed the rabbit and the dog before thinking about dinner.
Lit'lun, who had been swimming with her friend has just got back and asked for a takeaway curry, we had pizza yesterday, I think I will have to go and cook something as tempting as it is!

night shift......s
Wednesday night started almost as soon as we booked on, Tepic was attending for the first half of the night and our second job was to a grunting baby only a couple of hours old, the midwife had delivered the baby who was not breathing and needed immediate resuscitation, they told us baby was down for about 5 minutes!! on our arrival the baby girl was doing ok but was still grunting. Not another paediatric job!! The midwifes parting words as I shut the back doors were, " you know how to do neonatal resus do you?"
As I turned to answer, We are trained you know and as it happens we did a paediatric resus a week back, crossed my mind, I just replied "of course!" needless to say that was quite a fast trip into hospital.
We deposited Mother and baby safely into the labour ward before going off to our next job.
Our other job of note was much later on in the shift, I was by now attending, we were called out to an RTC, which there had been multiple calls to but no one had stayed around to flag us down so it took a good 15 minutes extra to actually find the job. Did we know it when we found it!
Tepic said "fatal then!"
As we took stock of the scene, a black car no one would have been able to tell what make, not even the manufacturer, was literally wrapped around a tree.
(the car was facing north, the drivers side was towards us the bonnet and front panels were about 20 feet west of the car, the complete engine was 10 feet north of the front of the car but the front passenger side of the car was almost touching the rear passenger side where the front passenger could have been was the trunk of the tree, no window had glass in it and no panels were uncreased)
We walked over to the car to see what the situation was and to our and the police officer who had also arrived's shock the driver was alive, he told us his name and that he only had pain in his left leg. Tepic took control of his head, keeping it in line and stopping him from moving, while I walked around the other side to see where his legs were. Because of the position he was in I couldn't clearly see his legs but it looked as if he had amputated it just below the knee.
I went back to the ambulance and got a collar long board and some other bits and arrived back at the patient at the same time as the fire service, a local crew we all knew each other by name. After putting the collar on him I cut up his trouser leg to see exactly what we were working with, A once open fracture now with no bone protrusion, tib and fib fracture, because of his position back towards the side of the car legs wrapped around it, we couldn't immobilise his leg in situ, it was all hands on deck, with us the firefighters and police inching him up the long board.
Once he was out we got him into the ambulance where Bob a car responder paramedic, cannulated and gave him some morphine for the pain, we cut down to skin to see what other injuries he may have, a broken nose, some muscle or bone damage to his right arm and a ?fractured clavicle. We prioritized him into the hospital resus unit and set off.
Once back at base we got our second meal break, by now it was 4:30am.
As I left the station to go home I remembered to take all my kit with me, as my next 3 shifts are at a different station 20 miles further away from home!
I decided not to go to bed as I would be sleeping in my own bed but as we had been so busy I just dosed on the sofa, only to be woken by one of my crew mates offering to do two of my shifts at the other station as she lives 5 minutes from it, I agree, the only catch is I have to do her night shift tonight! I went straight upstairs to try and get some more sleep but to no avail, I hope its a quiet night !
As it happened the night wasn't too bad, quite a lot of cover, but only two patients. Not too bad a night really.
I do have photo's of the car, for my portfolio but not to be published on here.

Pancake day
Yesterday I was at work again, working with a Paramedic Practitioner, who I haven't worked with before. The day started fairly slowly with a few cover moves after one of these we went to our local Subway to get lunch, I had a subway salad and my crew mate had a breakfast roll of some description. we headed back to base where I put my salad in the fridge till we got our meal break. We had about five jobs in total so all in all an easy day although our last job saw us an hour late off work. When I got home Lit'lun was there with her new hair cut which Beth had done for her, it looks lovely. Beth and one of her friends were round too so we chatted whilst I at my dinner, fish and chips from the local chippie, and watched CSI. my husband was still at uni, he gets home at about 11:30pm.
Today I have just lazed around, I did the horses this morning and got every thing ready for tonight so that I can just feed and hay on my way to work, then once home I sorted out the rest of the animals and had some lunch. I promised the girls some pancakes today as by the time I got home after being late off yesterday it was far too late to be making them, my husband can heat them up in the microwave for them after they have had dinner. I will be at work on a night shift by then.
Well I have just finished hovering downstairs, and had a huffy cuddle with Twiglet, she did her rattle snake impression again today I was just drinking some hot chocolate with her asleep in the crook of my arm, my tummy rumbled and she got all huffy rattly and curled up in a ball, it was quite funny really, she's going to have a bath tomorrow as I now have the Aveeno oil to put in the water, hopefully this will help her with her quilling.

RTB
RTB, this is one of our favorite things to see appear on the MDT (cab computer), as it is control telling us to Return To Base, But in the title here I mean it as I am going back to my normal station to work today.
We had a slow start to the day, I was attending to the patients for the first half of the day while my crew mate Tepic drove then at 1pm it was all change.
We had an interesting if not a rather shocking job, when we were sent to a patient with Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease, CJD, we had been out to this patient about 6 months ago, then we just had to assist the patient into bed as they had fallen over. This time however the patient could not communicate, walk of even hold eye contact, it was all very sad, and to top it all the patient was now fitting, so it was a trip up to the hospital with the live in carer as the patients partner was at work.
On both occasions we found the family members (who met us at the hospital) to be extremely unforthcoming with information, last time we were called out we weren't told what was wrong until we pushed for information and this time it was pretty much the same. When the hospital has stopped the patient fitting they were allowed home as they were only receiving palliative care.
Our last patient of the day had fallen in a nursing home and was one of the happiest patients I have been to for a very long time, also one of the loudest and..... one of the rudest! she was 84 years old and was pleased to see us chatting non stop and telling the regular members of care home staff to go away in some very colourful language, she had us all laughing. We left her at the care home to have some supper as she wasn't hurt just needed helping off the floor.
Away day
Yesterday I did a day shift at a station about 20 miles from my base, but the shift started an hour later than my normal shift so it meant I didn't have to get up any earlier, in fact I had a bit of a lay in and got up at 6 am. My crew mate, Dan arrived shortly after me, this station has 4 ambulances and two cars (I think) so it is a lot busier than mine both job wise and crews coming and going. Our first job was a resus, the patient was 40 years old and was found in a garden, (unwitnessed cardiac arrest, not good odds) we were the second vehicle and assisted the first crew in getting the patient onto the ambulance and with CPR. After being given adrenaline the patient got an output!! (pulse) we were all very surprised as we had no idea how long he had been down, he maintained his pulse all the way into hospital, and even once made respiratory effort but I continued to use a bag valve and mask as he stopped again. we had several good jobs, a couple of time wasters and plenty of cover, all in all I enjoyed my shift, I just hope Dan wasn't too unimpressed with me, as my confidence is still at a fairly low ebb, he did comment that as soon as the MDT (in cab computer) went off for a job I asked how old our patient was. We had one paediatric patient a one month old who was "foaming at the mouth" it turned out to be nothing but had me going for a while. Thanks for the encouragement Dan I appreciate it muchly xx I got home at nine and had a quick bite to eat before getting into bed, early start on Mondays shift.

North, South divide!
Divide?? Maybe it should read separate. :-(
This Morning the Northern bird went home, she left at 09.50am.
Thank you for my scarf and all the other presents you brought down for us, but mostly thank you for coming down, I really enjoyed the few days you were here for and hope you weren't too bored.
Have a safe journey, see you in May all being well. xx
The Full Monty
I should have posted this yesterday but it was so late when I got in that it had to wait till now!
We got up yesterday in good time to go up to the hospital for the debrief of a job that my crew mate and I did on 5Th February. Northern bird and I went up in my car and met my manager and crew mate, The Northern bird looked after his boys while the three of us went along to the room, only to find it had been put back half an hour, our manager talked to us about one or two things to do with the job then the senior Paediatrician arrived and told us they still didn't know yet, why the child had died. we decided that, as this was the real reason we had come, we didn't want to go into the briefing. Our manager agreed and told us to book two hours overtime. The Northern bird and I drove back to my house where we had lunch, and Flowers mum popped round for a cup of tea.
When she had gone we took the dog out for a quick run, got home and changed and waited for the blonde bird and Lou to come round as we were all going out to see Monty Roberts ( the horse whisperer) do a demonstration. Whilst my poor husband had to go to work. All four of us were dressed in the warmest clothes we could as it was going to be fairly cold in the schooling arena. After finding the place in good time we set off in search of food, and found a McDonald's!!
Back at the arena Lou and I each bought a book and I got a head collar for Mouse. We then managed to get Monty to sign the books and have a photo taken with him.
Once we had grabbed a cup of tea and sat down again the demonstration started, he worked on five horses with amazing results, we all sat there amazed by what we were seeing, this is definitely the way forward for Mouse and I, he demonstrated starting off a young horse and introduced it to its first saddle and rider, then again with another horse then a bucking horse who had been ridden by two people and bucked off two people, this horse was a real bucker, Monty demonstrated a device which caused them to stop bucking without causing pain and fear but making bucking uncomfortable, the horse ended up walking nicely around the round pen with a rider on his back. Next came to separate horses who both had spooking problems of differing degrees, by the end they were calmly walking round whilst banners umbrellas and flags were going past them.
Lou drove us all home, she dropped the Northers bird and me off before taking the Blonde bird home.
Even though it was midnight, we were hungry enough that I cooked a Spanish omelet for us to share and of course a cup of tea.
We sat and watched a couple of Eddie Izzard DVD's with a glass or two of wine before going to bed eventually at 1.45am!

Fire and Water
This morning we all got up early to go to the stables, Mouse was having her feet trimmed by the farrier, then I had to hold two of my friends horses while they were hot shod. This done I then dropped Lit'lun off at mums, she is staying with her for a couple of days.
After a cuppa we (Northern bird and I) set off on a sight seeing tour, we headed off to the sea. The area that we went to has a tower that was built for the millennium, even though it wasn't finished till about 2006!! It is called the Spinnaker tower, at the top is a glass viewing floor that you can walk or sit on or look through. We both sat on it for photos, (well it has to be done!) and took lots of photo's from the three viewing floors.
After we had seen our fill, we went back down and found somewhere to have lunch, a Spanish Tapas bar, the food was lovely and the price was perfect. We wandered around the shopping village and ate something rather naughty which if I write here what it was my husband will tell me off!!!! what you don't know won't hurt you my lovely husband xx
Once back home I cooked dinner whilst we chatted, then when Beth got in we all sat down and ate Moroccan.
After eating we sat and nattered some more watched some tv and drank red wine as you do!

North meets South
Today when I woke up I realised that my husband was still asleep beside me, he was supposed to be at work in half an hour, he rushed around and managed to get off in time to be at work.
I got up and had to hoover as Lit'luns bean bag decided to burst last night but it was too late to hoover then. When we had done a quick tidy up we went down to feed the horses and pick up a wheel barrow full of horse poo out of the field before going home.
At about eleven my friend came down from the north to stay for a few days, I haven't seen her except for MSN chats for about two year so we are going to catch up and drink red wine and go out and be mad!
Well ok, today we went to pizza hut for lunch, followed by Tesco for the odd item then back to give the horses their night feed and hay, and pick up another barrow load of poo!! the height of Mad!!! But there is plenty of time.
Once back home we had dinner, and chatted and watched films, tomorrow we will have to do something a little more fun.

Sleep over??..... Awake over!
Today started, well continued well into the small hours of yesterday. Shall I say that again, I was kept awake by Lit'lun and her friend (who was sleeping over) they chatted until 3.15am grr. Not that I am sleeping very well at the moment but I don't need any help. When my husband got up for work he brought me a cup of tea. When all the animals had been fed and a load of laundry put on I made a cup of coffee. When the girls eventually woke up they had breakfast and then watched a couple of videos, until the other lit'luns mother turned up to take her home, and Beth rang to see if Lit'lun could go in to where she works to be a model for her. After dropping her off at the salon, I carried on to get some shopping then down to the horses, The Blonde bird and I had decided that they should stay out tonight, its mild dry and there is no wind, so after wheelbarrowing their hay feed and night rugs up to the field I left them out, and came home to cook a roast dinner. I cut off a small amount of chicken for Twiglet, she loved it. Tomorrow the Northern Bird is coming down to stay for a few days.....
.
On my first day shift we got a cover move which made us go along a narrow lane with huge puddles in it. It was freezing cold and every car that went through the puddles sprayed water over the bushes which subsequently froze causing hundreds of icicles. The picture above is one I took along this road.

mucking out
All day I have been mucking out! I started this morning with Mouse and Red, then when I got home it was Twiglet and the hamster then the rabbit, still all the animals are now clean and sweet smelling for a couple of days.
After doing this Lit'luns friend came over she is sleeping over tonight, for a couple of years this little girl has been having medical problems, but has made an amazing recovery, with just the occasional glitch.
They took the dog out for a walk whilst I faffed around at home.
I had a quick natter with the Northern bird on the phone and did a load of laundry.
When I went to put the horses in the girls came with me, I hadn't realised that Mouse had grown so tall.... again.
Once back home I cooked the dinner and then watched a couple of DVD's with the girls, whilst checking emails and nattering to friends.
Twiglet is having a serious quilling session, getting rid of her baby quills and getting big grown up ones, which incidentally are seriously javelin like.
Now I am signing off for the night, I have the dog laying at my feet dreaming of chasing sheep, making squeeky noises..... I think I would even tolerate a dream about chasing sheep if it meant I got a good nights sleep. (anyone who knows me, will know that I am terrified of sheep so this is a big thing!!)

Two days, no nights.
Well, the last two days I have been on day shifts, The jobs came steadily as did the cover moves I still don't really want to be there, but I guess that will pass.
When I got home from work last night, (which happened to be valentines day) I got a dozen beautiful red roses a box of Belgium chocolates and a valentines card. we sat and had a glass of red wine or two and watched a film.
My husband got a book of the works of Dylan Thomas and a valentines card from me.
The only other thing I have to say, that I can remember is that the Northern bird, Crazy girl, did a "reverse bungee jump" today!! I have no idea what that is but I also have no wish to find out!
Just glad your safe and sound Hun. x

Tea and chat.
Today we all had a lie in as Beth had the day off work, Lit'lun had an inset day, and I am off, so when my husband came home from work he woke me up with a cup of tea.
After doing the animals, I had a hoover around , before my husband had to go to see the director of ordinands, ( he looks after the trainee priests).
At twelve thirty my friend Gail came round, we drank coffee ate cake and chatted solidly till three, when she left and I had to take Lit'lun for her Piano and singing lessons, while she is there I usually do the horses, then go back and collect her.
We then went to Tesco before going home and doing the dinner, Beth was already out when we got back, she is going to a cops and robbers party. This is the first time she has been out and I have been worried, as the person who is supposed to be bringing her home I really do not trust.
Work again tomorrow...Joy!

Belated.
I was wide awake all night, I finally managed to fall asleep at about 7:30am!! And woke again at about half past nine. Got in the bath and didn't want to get out. When I finally did I had to go food shopping as we had absolutely nothing in. once back I got changed and went down to do the horses, The Blonde bird had already done everything for Red so it was just Mouses stable and bringing them both in. Back home I cooked the dinner, Shepherds pie followed by banana fritters. Beth went out to the pub, and Lit'lun and I sat and watched CSI, as my husband had already left for his second night shift. Whilst watching TV I got the hoglet out for a cuddle and let her stretch her legs, she was very grumpy tonight. I had a message from the Northern Bird today to say her Birthday present that should have got there yesterday for her Birthday arrived today. Tomorrow, a friend whom I haven't seen for a good 15 years is coming round, after we caught up on facebook, Gail is coming round for a catch up at lunch time. Happy Birthday for yesterday Northern Bird, it was good to talk to you and the chick, yesterday. xx
Down
Today I dropped lit'lun off at school before going to do the horses, after doing them I picked mum up again and we went to my station to drop off my paramedic application form, I have submitted it but don't know what I am doing at the moment.
I got some more horse feed while I was up there then came home collected the hoglet and drove down to the stables again, the boss and her two girls came over to meet her in the car before I brought the horses in and went round to mums, Hoglet ran around downstairs exploring before I came home again, my husband had already left for work, he had cooked dinner for himself and Lit'lun, so when Beth came in I cooked dinner for just the two of us, only omelet and potato wedges, with beans.
All the time I felt myself getting more and more down, so down in fact that I rang my husband at work, he was busy but rang me back.
I hate this feeling.

Good bye Wotsit
Last night I didn't sleep very well, I got off to sleep but then woke up and couldn't get back to sleep for a long while, lots of things going round in my head. This morning I got up feeling very flat. I had a cup of tea then decided to do a load of laundry.... Beth, had used up the soft rinse, the washing liquid, left washing in the machine and a wet load in the laundry basket Grr. I was able to bury my hamster today, as all the snow and the rain have gone, I have put her under some spring flower bulbs. RIP little Wotsit. Then I sorted out the leaves in the garden, before taking my husband to the train station to get his train to uni. Back home I decided to cover the vivarium to make it look like pine finish wood as I don't like the unfinished look. I also put the heat pad on the back, so that Twiglet is kept at the right temperature. When Lit'lun got home from school we went down and did the horses, then popped round to see my mum as two parcels had been delivered there because I forgot to change the delivery address after getting my husbands Christmas presents sent to my mums house. I now have to fill in my Paramedic application, as last time I wimped out!

When is it going to end?!
Last night I was on another night shift, we began the night with a few cover moves, so we knew that some areas were busy even though we didn't get a job till fairly late on, the job was not really requiring an ambulance, yet another drain on resources and finances.
We were then sent to cover a station about 25 miles from our own, we both groaned wondering when we would get back to our own area. Then we got another job, "its an amber in the area we are heading to" my crew mate said, I put the lights on and put my foot down as she got the sat nav up and running, we were stood down about 10 miles short of the address,
"phew" my crew mate said "you'll never guess what that job was?", I glanced across at her "No, what?" I asked "six month old un responsive!" she replied.
I was gob smacked, "when is this going to end?" I asked.
we were then sent back to our base station for a meal break, and this is where we stayed until 6.30am when we were sent to a 40 year old fitting, this took us into overtime.
Once home, I decided to just wake the hedgehog up for a short play as I hadn't had much chance the night before, she was very nosey and crept into my pocket hoping to curl up and sleep, I went to get her out and found, oh no!! the work phone! I rang the control centre and told them what I had done and that I would drop it back (62 mile round trip) after doing the horses!
It was absolutely chucking it down with rain so I kept them in, most of the others were in so they had loads of company, then I picked mum up and went to drop the phone off on the way to a massive garden centre which has a good reptile centre, now I know that the hedgehog isn't a reptile but as she lives in a vivarium I wanted to get some proper heating system and here would be the ideal place to get it from. After buying a heat mat and a couple of pet toys, mum and I had lunch before setting off home again.
At least I have five days off now. Lets just hope things start to get better.

Should I stay or should I go now?
Yesterday morning Lit'lun and I went down to do the horses, it was freezing cold again and she worked so hard helping me, probably to get home quicker but she helped of her own accord. Once home I suggested having pancakes for breakfast, she danced about saying how unfair it was to just have them on Shrove Tuesday, and I set to making a batter and squeezing lemons.
After eating them we sat and watched the television for a while, my husband rang for a quick chat between lecture sessions then I woke the hedgehog up so I could have a prickly cuddle as I'm back at work tonight, although I am not looking forward to it one single bit! She huffed a bit at being woken up, but was soon happy to wander around the lounge exploring before coming back and falling asleep in my hands, I put her back into her bed, and prepared my dinner to take to work with me.
Lit'lun and I went back down to the horses and put them to bed, with lots of hay.
On the way home I had a quick chat with my mum using a blue tooth headset, while I was talking I heard a text message come through but couldn't do anything till I had driven home. As I read the text I screamed, it was from a friend, who was obviously very distressed, saying goodbye!! the thoughts that went through my mind! It had been a good 15+ minutes since the text had arrived. I rang her home number fortunately she answered, we had a chat then rang off, I rang her mum, as she lives very close to my friend ( who lives hundreds of miles from me) who said she would go round immediately. ( later I got a call from both my friend and her mother, saying things were fine)
I set off for work, this is my first shift since that awful job. We were stood down for an hour by one of the managers who came out to speak to us and make sure we were OK.
Our first job was to a two month old unconscious baby.... Wheres the justice in that??? Our control rang us after sending the job, to tell us there was a paramedic car closer than us but we were both a first response, they asked if we were OK as they knew what our last job had been. To be fair they updated us continuously on the journey finally saying baby was screaming and the car had arrived on scene. We went in the baby was definitely in some distress but the parents and the car paramedic had already chatted and decided that the parents would take baby to hospital in their own car. I couldn't get out of the house fast enough, neither could my crew mate.
After a bit of cover, we got our second job, a red call to a 16 year old severe respiratory distress, asthma, it turned out to be a panic attack, fortunately.
our other jobs were all car accidents, as the roads were extremely icy. The first car accident wasn't caused by the ice though! Judging by the fumes left in the back of the ambulance after he had left it, still there was a lovely police lady with a breath test kit waiting for him to step off the ambulance......
And now I am home, I have checked and fed the animals, I have had a cup of tea and some toast and now I am going to bed, BUT, I am seriously considering my future in the ambulance service,
Should I stay or should I go now.............??

Not a lot.
Today I booked sick.
I still keep replaying yesterdays job.
This morning I had to go and pick up my mums car as my husband is going to uni on a study weekend and his car is completely off the road so he has to take mine.
When I got back and he had gone, I got a welfare phone call from one of the officers just to see how I was.
My husband then rang to say he had arrived safely.
After dinner I finished the inside of twiglets vivarium and put her in it. She had a wander round then went to bed under her new hedgehog igloo.
It has been rather a sombre day.

Clothes
There was yet more snow during the night, but today I didn't have to venture out of the house.
Instead, I thought I would have a clear out of all my clothes, oh boy! well it took all morning and part of the afternoon to do, but now I have two huge bags of clothes to go to the charity shop, a bag for the girls to sort through, a bag to go in the dustbin, and I can now close my wardrobe again, sadly my wardrobe is taken up mostly by two types of uniform, my Greens for the ambulance service, and the black and whites for security work, how sad is that.
after cooking myself and my husband a fried egg sandwich for lunch, I thought I had better muck out the Hoglet, well she wasn't very happy to be disturbed but last night she turned into a poop machine! So everything had to come out! Once it was all clean and tidy, she had fresh food and water and a little bit of scrambled egg as a treat, I sat down and had her on my lap, well she promptly fell asleep, how boring was that!
After cooking the dinner I got her up again this time she was much happier to be up and had a run around, mainly all over the laptop keys.
No 2 son was online, he is back at Uni now, so he got to see her on the webcam.

White stuff
I wasn't surprised when it was white everywhere, Lit'lun on the other hand was surprised, when she got up for school.
Getting to the yard was a complete nightmare the back roads had not been gritted so they were like a sheet of glass, there were two cars in a ditch, then as I got back onto the main road the Blond bird was on her way in the other direction to go to work.
At the stables, all the horses except one were staying in, all the water was frozen, as were all the taps, the girl who owns it got me two buckets of water to put in Mouse and Reds stables. After mucking out and giving them huge hay nets, I took the dog up into the field for a run, she loves running in the snow, I threw a tennis ball for her with a ball slinger whilst I collected up the buckets that we had used to feed the horses in the field.
After leaving I cautiously drove home again.
The Blonde bird came round after work to have a quick peep at Twiglet and a cuppa, before she went back home, before leaving she said she would do the horses in the morning and evening tomorrow as she was off and lives so much closer. Cheers Huni. xx
Back out again, this time to get some bread and teabags which we have run out of from the supermarket, the roads are looking fine now, when I got home Lit'lun had just got back from a huge snowball fight on the green with her friends.
Now we are all just waiting for Twiglet to wake up!
The incredible journey
Yesterday I couldn't post, by the end of this you will see why!
I had text a message to the Blonde bird asking if we could swap horse duties, as I didn't think I would be home in time to do the evening, she agreed and I put the horses out, mucked out and got Mouses things ready for the evening.
Then after getting a few bits of shopping, Beth and I got in the car armed with a small pet carrier and began our trip to get Twiglet, I had decided to go Sunday as the weather forecast was for snow on the Monday evening and I didn't want to chance a journey to somewhere I had never been (460 miles at that) in the snow!
Once we were on the M25 it had started to flurry small wispy bits of snow occasionally, but it wasn't due for another 24 hours and we had started so.......
230 miles later we had arrived at our destination, there was a good 2 inches of snow (sorry I don't work in new money) on the ground already.
We tucked her up well and had a chat with her breeder, before heading home.
Oh boy! we got onto the M11 eventually! and here we had to travel at 20 mph max, it was down to one lane, of crawling traffic, a motorbiker came off his bike, the two cars in front of me and me skidded either into the fast lane or the hard shoulder even at 20mph, we helped him get his bike onto the hard shoulder and made sure he and the bike were ok before traveling again. Then I couldn't clear my windscreen, the wiper blades had frozen solid, Beth said it was like wiping them with cricket bats, so we had to find a services and sort that out, there were lots of other people in the same situation so we had to queue up for the hoses to clean the windscreens and (for what it was worth) refill the washer bottles. Once on the M25 we could go a bit faster as it was very clear, but then as we came off again it was back to crawl all the way home. half past midnight we arrived home!
The good thing was we got to watch some of the Superbowl, Steelers V Cardinals, we watched to the halftime whistle then as my Husband had work in the morning we decided to go to bed, and record the second half.
